Belhaven Road House and Garage Fire

By Public Information Officer Clay Myers
March 29, 2026

Gamber and neighboring fire units were alerted for a possible house fire at 11:18 pm on Saturday, March 28, 2026. The call came in from across the street on Belhaven Rd. with a cross street of Rainbow Drive. Chief 9-1 from Reese arrived and declared a working fire. He requested a rapid intervention team (RIT*) dispatch and a tanker task force to bring additional water since this neighborhood has no fire hydrants.

Gamber's Chief 13, Chad Hastings, arrived and established command. The house was a one story rancher with two garages attached to each other. Both garages were a total loss including eleven classic and valuable antique automobiles. The fire was declared under control at 11:53. Units returned to service and cleared the scene at 2:10 am.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

An engine from Upperco Volunteer Fire Co. in Baltimore County filled in the Gamber station during this incident.

*RIT Note: A firefighter assist and search team, also known as a rapid intervention team or a rapid intervention dispatch is a team of two or more firefighters who are dedicated solely to the search and rescue of other firefighters in distress. They are equipped and prepared with all the tools necessary to perform a rescue if firefighters inside the dwelling or building call a mayday. They do not perform other duties on the fire ground while standing by.

Units: Engines 134 and 131, Utilities 13 and 13-1, Duty 13

Mutual Aid: Mutual aide companies, CCDFEMS personnel, BGE, Maryland State Fire Marshal
