Gamber firefighters and EMS providers were exceptionally busy on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, a frigid January day with temperatures in the single digits.

The day started with an alert for an inside gas leak at 3:57 am. The call was to assist Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department on Tydings Road in Eldersburg.

The next call was for a residential fire alarm at 6:09 am on Christiana Drive in Finksburg.

Two medical calls followed. The first in Gamber’s district at 6:23 am and the second in Reese’s district at 7:39 am.

A fire involving exposures was next. It was dispatched at 10:02 am and located on Muller Road in Winfield’s district. The fire was upgraded to a structure fire after flames spread to a barn. The original fire started in a camper before spreading to the barn. Firefighters also protected the shed and a house from further damage.

In addition to apparatus from Winfield, Sykesville, Westminster, Reese, New Windsor, Howard County, and staffing from DFEMS, Gamber responded with three units. Engines 131, 134, and Engine/Tanker 133 assisted. Several units including 131 and 133 hauled water to the scene. Engine 134 staged at the location. Units returned to service after noon.

A medical call was dispatched at 10:17 am in Gamber's district but since all Gamber units were unavailable, Medic 127 from Sykesville handled it. The residence was located on Poole Road in Gamber. This call came in before the station was filled in by Baltimore County units.

Engine 56 and Tanker 56 from the career Franklin Station in Baltimore County responded and filled in the Gamber station during this incident.

An additional medical call came in at 1:31 pm with Ambulance 139 and Duty 13 responding along with Medic 127 from Sykesville.

Gamber was then alerted at 3:58 pm for a vehicle collision in the 3800 block of Sykesville Road, Rt. 32, in Gamber. Engine 134 and Ambulance 139 responded.

A second vehicle collision was dispatched at 4:12 pm. Engine 134 cleared the first incident and responded to that call and Medic 127 from Sykesville was alerted. This was initially located on Deer Park Road in the vicinity of the watershed near the Baltimore County border. Gamber Ambulance 139 also cleared the Sykesville Road incident and responded to the Deer Park Road crash. Units arrived on the scene and determined the call was located in Baltimore County at the intersection of Ivy Mill Road and Nicodemus Road with Baltimore County Police on the scene. Sykesville’s Medic unit was placed in service before arrival.

A residential fire alarm alert was dispatched at 5:43 pm for a residence on Lauren Hill Drive in Finksburg. Engine 134 and Chief 13 handled that call.

An additional medical call was dispatched at 7:08 pm. It was located at the Home Depot in Eldersburg but units were cancelled before responding.

All in all, a very busy day with frigid temperatures!
