Firefighters from Gamber & Community Fire Co. visited prekindergarten and kindergarten classes at Mechanicsville Elementary School on Monday, October 28. Five classes of children came out to the front bus loop to see Gamber Engine 134. Firefighters showed the children the apparatus and demonstrated donning of firefighter gear. They also got to step inside the back of the engine.
This visit was coordinated by Lt. Will Reardon as part of Fire Prevention month activities. Volunteer firefighters Nick Blizzard, Brooke Brown, Anthony Hypes, and Ricky Syfert participated. DFEMS Fire apparatus driver operator, Jeff Partridge, drove the engine.
Fire-safety coloring books were provided to all of the youngsters after the visit.
