The fire company is placing a new water rescue boat in service. It is a 2022 Zodiac Milpro Grand Raid Mark 2. It is 14’ in length and will be powered by a 2011 Honda 30 HP outboard motor. This motor powered the previous Zodiac rescue boat, a 2010 Mark 2 Futura model and the Honda is still in very good condition. The new boat will be identified as Boat 13-1.
The fire company authorized the replacement due to the condition of the 2010 model and Chief Engineer, Chuck Doyle, coordinated the purchase. It was purchased from Cumberland Marine Repair in York, Pennsylvania.
In 2021, the fire company responded to 17 water rescue calls in Carroll County and in surrounding jurisdictions. Gamber & Community Fire Co. has had a dive unit and water rescue team since the mid-1980’s. The first boat was also a Zodiac. This will make the 4th one since the water rescue team was formed. The original trailer is still being used and is in very good shape for its age. The new boat and trailer can be towed by either Dive Unit 13 or Utility 13.
The dive/water rescue team is under the overall direction of Chief Charlie Green and coordinated by Water Rescue Lieutenant Jeremy Hutton and Assistant Water Rescue Team Leader Pat Livesay. |
