This is an update to the "New Tanker" story posted back in October 2023. The chassis for Gamber's new tanker has been delivered to 4 Guys Fire Trucks in Meyersdale, PA. The new truck is a Kenworth T880. 4 Guys will now work on fabricating the tanker body and mounting it on the chassis. This story will be updated as the new tanker progresses.
The new tanker will replace the current unit, Engine/Tanker 133 which is a 2003 Pierce apparatus with a 2500-gallon tank. Once the new unit is received, this will be sold. The new truck will be an elliptical tanker. It will be on a Kenworth T880 chassis with a poly tank wrapped by stainless steel and will hold 3500 gallons of water. It will also have a large capacity portable folding tank. The tanker will be operated by a two-man crew. The new chassis will be delivered from the truck manufacturer sometime during the 2nd quarter of 2024. Total production of the new tanker will take approximately 845 days. The fire company’s New Apparatus Committee is chaired by Chief Engineer Chuck Doyle. Also on the committee are President Dale Bollinger, Chief Chad Hastings, Assistant Chief Charlie Green, Assistant Chief Shawn Chenoweth, Lt Michael Green, and Lt Emily Franklin.
