NOVEMBER 6 - A severe head-on collision involving two SUV's sent three victims to area hospitals. The vehicle collision was reported at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 6th. The location for the incident was north of the intersection with Klees Mill Road on Route 32 (Sykesville Road).
Units from Gamber & Community Fire Company arrived and reported two patients trapped in separate vehicles and requested assistance for extrications. Crews from Gamber immediately began a tedious extrication of the driver in the Toyota Highlander. Soon afterward, units from Reese VFD arrived on the scene and assisted with the extended extrication of the driver's for both vehicles. During the extrication, the juvenile son of the driver was staying warm in another car after the collision.
A landing site was established at the Gamber Fire Company for Trooper 3. The driver was transported by Maryland State Police Helicopter - Trooper 3 - to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for injuries received during the collision. The driver's son was transported to Carroll Hospital Center by Ambulance 128 from Sykesville VFD as a precaution.
The second vehicle, a Ford Explorer, contained one trapped patient. The patient was quickly extricated from the vehicle by crews from Reese Engine 9-1 and transported to Sinai Hospital by Ambulance 9-9 for injuries sustained during the collision.
Units cleared the scene at approximately 6:45 p.m.
