Building Tours in Reese’s District

By Treasurer Clay Myers
September 20, 2009

Firefighters from Gamber & Community Fire Co. joined members of Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Co. on Saturday, September 19 in touring several facilities in Reese's district. Also participating were firefighters from Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Co. and Glyndon Volunteer Fire Co., both in Baltimore County. All participating companies are on the first alarm dispatch in the event of a fire or other significant emergency at the selected facilities.

The training started at the Gerstell Academy, a private school, located on Old Westminster Pike off Rt. 140. Participants toured all three buildings belonging to the school, examined alarm and sprinkler systems, and checked out other components of the growing campus.

Next on the schedule was the AT&T radio tower complex at Rt. 140 and Suffolk Rd. Firefighters examined the fire suppression systems in this facility and planned on how ambulance crews would gain access to the building in the event of a medical emergency.

Last on the morning's agenda was the new Finksburg Branch of the Carroll County Public Library located on Old Westminster Pike near Green Mill Rd. The new library is fully sprinklered and has an alarm system. Firefighters walked through the branch and saw the mechanical room that houses a geothermal heating system. The new branch had its ribbon cutting ceremony on 1/28/09.

The three hour training, hosted by Reese's chief and members ended at noon, and was very beneficial for all participants.

Engine 131 and Paramedic 139 from Gamber participated in the training.
