NEW AMBULANCE FOR GAMBER
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Treasurer Clay Myers
August 28, 2010

The Gamber & Community Fire Company is placing in service a new 2010 Horton/Ford Model 553 ambulance. The unit is mounted on a 2010 Ford E-450 chassis. It has a 6.0 diesel engine with an automatic transmission.

The Horton body has all LED lighting, inside and out, that helps with visibility and the electrical load. The unit is painted Gamber's colors of white over red with gold leaf lettering. It also now has the new lime green and red chevron striping on the rear per the new N.F.P.A. standards for vehicle visibility.

The ambulance is equipped with a Stryker power-lift cot to help out and save on back injuries to EMT's and paramedics. It also has Horton's complete roll-over protection system installed called the HOPS System. It stands for Horton Occupant Protection System.

The new unit will be known as 139. It was manufactured by Horton Emergency Vehicles, Grove City, Ohio, and purchased from FESCO Emergency Sales in Elkridge, MD, through Pete Laake, Jr. The approximate cost of unit was $185,000.00

This new ambulance is replacing our 2004 Horton/Ford unit that has served us well and will be sold.

We would like to thank the New Ambulance Committee for helping put this together and the fire company for their support. We also want to thank the community for their donations toward the new unit.

New Ambulance Committee:

Chair - Chuck Doyle, Chief Engineer
Co Chair - Dale Bollinger, President
Charles Green Jr., Chief
Mike Jordan, EMS Captain
Kevin Lentzner, EMS Lieutenant
Jeff Fleming, EMS Paramedic/Supervisor

Units: A 139
